What’s mind boggling is that issues debated/discussed at that event more than 20 years ago, are mostly the same thorny issues of today — which speaks volumes about how little info about Palestinian oppression is even known or understood by Americans. Thus regular and repeated ‘recycling’ of the lectures and writings of Shahak are welcomed and hope there are more!!
It was an extraordinary and unexpected pleasure to see this video with my late friend, Israel Shahak, at his best, telling the graduates of the East Coast Jewish madrasas exactly what they represented. A year later, in 1995, I brought him to Northern California which would be his last trip to the US (and introduced him to Thai food) where the response to this indispensable human being was invariably positive. Those of us who loved and admired Shahak considered him indispensable while he lived and since his death in 2001, we have been proven prescient. There has been no one on the Israeli scene with the deep knowledge and understanding of Judaism and its relation to Zionism to take his place.
Here we also see the classic Chomsky at his “best.” Telling it like it is (with the notable exception he makes no mention of the role (or even the existence) of the Israel or Jewish Lobby in shaping US policy towards Israel..
