I certainly caught the irony, but I heard no irony in the commentator’s voice when he quoted Hillel [the Elder] as saying after he was asked to define the essential message of Judaism as being: “What is hateful to you – do not do to your neighbor. That is the whole of the Torah. All else is commentary.” Perhaps the Palestinians have somehow been negated as “neighbors.”
” What is hateful to you – do not do to your neighbor. That is the whole of the Torah. ”
It’s obviously not what the Torah is ‘ all about ‘. There is no religion on the planet more obsessed with presenting itself as something it is not. The whole idea of branding is a very familiar concept.
